Microsatellites Based Genetic Linkage Map of the Rht3 Locus in Bread Wheat

Abstract: The wheat reduced height genes (Rht) played an important role in "The Green Revolution" by reducing damage due to lodging and making wheat more responsive to fertilizer applications. The successful use of cultivars containing Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b around the world compelled the scientist to identify and generate height mutants through induced mutation in wheat. There are manyRht genes known in wheat, however genetic and molecular characterization of many Rht genes are lacking. The Rht3 gene was originally found … Show more

“…The F 2 population had a height distribution skewed towards the parent Icaro ( Figure 1 ). The skewed distribution towards reduced height parents was also reported in the Rht3 F 2 mapping population [ 22 ]. This distribution suggests that the mutant phenotype is dominant, as only a few plants had the tall phenotype.…”

“…The Rht-B1c variant exhibited insensitivity to GA 3 which caused reduction in alphaamylase activity in seeds, increased ABA responsiveness and increased Hagberg falling number, resulting in improved resistance to sprouting damage (Flintham et al 1997;Gooding et al 2012). However, the location of Rht-B1c allele at wmc125 on chromosome 4B (Navarro et al 2014) is distant from the QPhs.spa-4B QTL.…”
