Microsatellite analysis of the genetic diversity in the Black Slavonian pig

Abstract: This research is focused on the genetic diversity and population structure of the Black Slavonian pig, with the aim of assessing the situation regarding the endangerment of genetic diversity, and defining the further role of this breed in the preseration of its genetic diversity. Genetic population parameters were assessed in 42 animals at 8 microsatellite loci. On three of the observed loci there was a deviation from the Hardy-Weinberg (HW) equilibrium with P<0.01, one locus showed P<0.05, and in all of… Show more

“…The Schwäbisch-Hällisches Schwein breed was originated by crossing local pigs in Württemberg with Chinese pigs, and later by crossbreeding with pigs imported from England 2 . The creation of Black Slavonian breed, which was a dominant one on the territory of Croatia up to the mid-20th century, resulted from planned crossing between Mangalitsa, Berkshire, Poland China and Large Black (Cornwall) pig 36,37 . On the other hand, several breeds have been subjected to crossbreeding with cosmopolitan European breeds carrying Asiatic introgression, such as Krškopolje, which was likely crossed with German Landrace in times when the breed was cast out.…”

“…The Banija spotted breed is characterized by a white coat with black spots and high fertility [80]. The Black Slavonian pig (Crna Slavonska) is an autochthonous breed from the eastern region of Croatia [81] created by crossing Mangalitza, Berkshire, Poland China, and Large Black (Cornwall) pigs [82][83][84]. The most important characteristic of this breed is its black coat color.…”

“…The mechanism of action of some antibiotics such as streptomycin, tetracycline, aspergillic acid and usinic acid were exhibited antibacterial effect due to their metal chelating activities. 5,6 Metal chelating abilities of Schif's bases, inspired several chemist to test the antibacterial and other biological activities of Schif's bases. This was a distraction from research on diazo compounds, as diazo compounds were proved to be toxic and azomethines were believed as substitute to diazo compounds in search for novel molecules and resulted in synthesis of various Schif's bases for testing their biological activities.…”
