microRNA‐related single‐nucleotide polymorphisms and breast cancer

Abstract: Breast cancer, as the most common cancer in women which affects patients both mentally and physically, requires great attention in many areas and many levels as this cancer is known to be multifactorial. Single-stranded molecules called micro-RNAs with near 22 nucleotides are seen to act in central dogma of molecular biology by inhibiting the translation process; it is demonstrated that any alteration in their sequence especially single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may lead into increasing the breast cancer… Show more

“…Breast cancer is the most common malignancy and one of the leading causes of death among women. 1,2 According to the GLOBOCAN (global cancer statistics) 2018 data, there are approximately 2.1 million new cases of breast cancer worldwide. 3 It is well known that changes in the structure or behaviour of genes are responsible for the development of breast cancer (BC).…”

“…It is observed that miR-21 targets genes that act in cell proliferation and cell apoptosis including Ras and Pdcd4 (21). SNPs in the miRNA coding genes are seen to affect the binding a nity and binding ability of miRNAs, which can consequently affect the expression of the miRNA target genes (9). Although miR-21 rs1292037 is seen to be correlated with the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and cervical cancer, there is no reported evidence on the association of this reference SNP and T1DM (14,22).…”

“…It has been well-established that early diagnosis of T1DM can signi cantly prevent T1DM complications and would increase the effectiveness of T1DM treatments including stem cell transplantation and β cells regeneration strategies (7,8). microRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous, evolutionary conserved single-stranded molecules with about 22 nucleotides; miRNAs act in cell communication via regulating gene expression by base-pairing with different sites of the transcriptome, mainly the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of their target mRNAs (9).…”

“…Of these, we excluded 277 studies during initial screening based on review of the titles and abstracts. During analysis of the full text of the remaining articles, two studies were excluded for investigating other miRNAs [12,13], two studies were excluded because they were review articles [14,15], and one study was excluded because it did not report precise genotypes [16].…”
