microRNA Profiling in Glaucoma Eyes With Varying Degrees of Optic Neuropathy by Using Next-Generation Sequencing

Abstract: This study comprehensively demonstrated the miRNA expression profile in the AH of POAG eyes, especially the differential expression of miRNA in eyes with varying degrees of visual field damage, which, together with the underlying miRNA-related pathways, indicate new targets for the pathogenesis and progression of POAG.

“…25 In our previous study, we also used NGS to explore the miRNA profile in the AH of glaucoma patients, and we found glaucoma specific miRNAs profile and related to glaucoma progression. 19 The finding of PDR-specific miRNAs in our study was consistent with other studies [26][27][28] (as shown in Table 3). Recently, miR-150-5p was found to be strongly downregulated in the extracellular vesicles of blood from DR subjects using miRNA array detection 13 and suppression of the pathological neovascularization in mice using oxygeninduced proliferative retinopathy.…”

“…Thus, miRNAs were proposed as biomarkers, and the expression profile of circulating miRNAs has been evaluated in cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and ocular disease . In our previous study, we also used NGS to explore the miRNA profile in the AH of glaucoma patients, and we found glaucoma specific miRNAs profile and related to glaucoma progression …”
