microRNA and Wound Healing

Abstract: microRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNA molecules which play pivotal roles in wound healing. The increased expression of certain genes and expression of some others represent a key component of the wound biology and are largely under the regulation of naturally occurring miRNAs. Understanding the dysregulated miRNAs in chronic wound biology will therefore enable the development of newer therapies. This chapter focuses on the miRNAs that can be potentially targeted for improving skin wound healing and the ch… Show more

“…Both lncRNAs and miRNAs are potential biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of wound healing treatment. For instance, miR-210 serves as a novel molecular marker for chronic wound healing outcomes in a clinical trial 36 . miRNA-based treatment is more effective compared with traditional treatment 37 .…”

“…specificity [403,404]. Nonetheless, in order to design a safe and efficient miRNA nanocarrier some concerns must be considered [403]. The most important issue is the anatomy of the targeted organ, however, the therapeutic dose, the tissue microenvironment and the ECM composition of each cell type must be evaluated in order to improve the therapeutic potential of the mimic miRNA or the anti-miRNA.…”
