MicroRNA-588 suppresses tumor cell migration and invasion by targeting GRN in lung squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been demonstrated to be critical in regulating tumor development and progression. The present study investigated the expression of miR-588 using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis in 85 cases of lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and observed the correlation between the expression of miR-588 with clinical pathologic features. The results indicated that the expression of miR-588 was predominantly lower in the tumor samples, compared with non-tumorous s… Show more

“…QPCR showed similar miR-588 downregulation pattern in in vivo breast carcinomas as in in vitro BC cell lines. These results are in line with a recent study showing that miR-588 was significantly downregulated in human lung cancer [ 19 ], suggesting that miR-588 may be aberrantly and predominantly downregulated in various cancer types.…”

“…Then, using the Pearson chi-square test, we discovered that low expression level of miR-588 in BC patient carcinomas was closely correlated with poor prognosis, including advanced TNM stage, positive lymph node metastasis status, and positive estrogen receptor status. A previous study showed that, in patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma, miR-588 was also associated with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis [ 19 ]. Thus, it would be interestingly to learn, through further screening of other carcinoma samples, whether miR-588 may be used a broader biomarker for predicting other types of cancers in addition to breast and lung cancers.…”

“…Therefore, the investigation of the miR-144 in EVs might present novel biomarkers for the early and accurate diagnosis of HCC and other liver diseases [92]. MiR-141-3p also leads to invasion and metastasis of HCC by the direct targeting of SMAD4 and SGK3 [93,94]. Yu M et al assessed the role of miR-144 in HCC.…”

“…Another study detected that the levels of miR-141-3p were significantly increased in serum extracellular vehicles (EVs) and liver cancer tissues compared with serum and the distal liver tissues in HCC patients [42]. MiR-141-3p also leads to invasion and metastasis of HCC by direct targeting of SMAD4 and SGK3 [43,44]. Yu M et al assessed the role of miR-144 in HCC.…”
