MicroRNA-486-5p targeting PIM-1 suppresses cell proliferation in breast cancer cells

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as critical regulators in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. Recently, miR-486-5p has been proved to play an important role in several cancers, but its functions in the context of breast cancer (BC) remain unknown. In this study, we found that miR-486-5p expression is significantly downregulated in BC tissues and cell lines. Overexpression of miR-486-5p dramatically suppressed BC cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo, induced G0/G1 arrest, and promoted apoptosis. We subsequ… Show more

“…The downregulation of miR-486-5p is a frequent molecular event in certain human malignances (14)(15)(16)(37)(38)(39)(40). Furthermore, miR-486-5p may function as tumor suppressor through contributing to the progression and metastasis of NSCLC by targeting ARHGAP5 (14), in addition to the fact that miR-486-5p exerts its antiproliferative function by directly downregulating PIM-1 expression in breast cancer cells (15), miR-486-5p suppresses tumor growth by targeting PIK3R1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (16). However, the expression and role of miR-486-5p in ESCC has yet to be elucidated.…”

“…However, the function and clinical significance of miR-486-5p in ESCC has yet to be elucidated (15). In the present study, the expression levels of miR-486-5p in ESCC tissues were determined, and the function of miR-486-5p in ESCC cells were investigated by cell migration, proliferation and apoptosis assays.…”

“…This suggests changes in the regulatory network that occur in IBC and non-IBC. Moreover, it was described that miR-486-5p plays a tumor suppressor role in breast cancer by direct targeting PIM-1 oncogene (Zhang et al, 2014).…”

“…A complex series of events are involved in remodeled arterial wall with advanced aging, including migration and invasion of abnormal vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC), which significantly contribute to diffuse intimal thickening and the onset and progression of CVD (2,3). Previous data on interventions in age-associated VSMC migration and invasion indicated modulation of decrease and delay of the occurrence of severe CVD (4).…”

“…Ang II is a major inductor of VSMCs senescence, and has been shown to potently simulate VSMCs migration and invasion (17)(18)(19)(20)(21). In addition, inhibition of Ang II pathways has been shown to substantially reduce ageassociated arterial remodeling (3,4). The basement membrane which surrounds VSMC is cleaved by matrix metalloprotease (MMP) and restructured for ageassociated migration and invasion (2,3,22).…”
