microRNA-425-5p is upregulated in human gastric cancer and contributes to invasion and metastasis in vitro and in vivo

Abstract: Emerging evidence indicates that microRNAs are involved in the development and progression of gastric cancer (GC), functioning as tumor suppressors or oncogenes. The aim of the current study was to explore the potential mechanism of microRNA-425-5p (miR-425-5p) in GC. Using reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction, miR-425-5p expression was detected in GC cell lines (SGC-7901, MKN-28, MKN-45, BGC-823 and AGS) and the GES-1 cell line. Cell proliferation, soft agar colony formation, flow cyto… Show more

“…Zhang et al showed that miR-425-5p could regulate chemoresistance in CRC cells via regulating Programmed Cell Death 10 [33]. In addition, miR-425-5p has been reported to promote tumorigenicity and aggressiveness in breast cancer and gastric cancer [31, 34]. miR-425-5p was discovered for the first time to be valuable biomarker of CRC in our study.…”

“…We found that miR-425-5p appeared promising with respect to normal tissue response to radiation in our examination of healthy baboons. Accordingly, this miRNA has been previously associated with chemo- and radiosensitivity [20,21], cell proliferation [22,23], and cell death [20]. …”

“…Among these 2 miRNAs, miR-NA-425 has been associated with tumor stage in gastric (32) and lung cancer (33), and in RCC, it has been suggested as being a potential ccRCC biomarker (34) associated with poor prognosis for chromophobe RCC (35) and decreased PFS during sunitinib treatment (17). miR-1307 plays a role in chemoresistance in ovarian cancer (36), and it has been suggested to contribute to colorectal carcinogenesis (37).…”
