MicroRNA-30a Sensitizes Tumor Cells to cis-Platinum via Suppressing Beclin 1-mediated Autophagy

Abstract: Background: Tumor cell autophagy is activated during chemotherapy and contributes to chemotherapy resistance. Results: cis-DDP or Taxol treatment increased tumor cell autophagy activity but decreased the miR-30a level. Blockade of beclin 1-mediated autophagy by miR-30a significantly increased cis-DDP-induced tumor cell apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: miR-30a can sensitize tumor cells to cis-DDP via reducing autophagy. Significance: We identify a novel approach to improve chemotherapy efficiency.
