“…The alarmingly high frequency of submucosal invasion, LVI, LNM, and the mixed micropapillary component allude aggressive biologic behavior in high-grade papillary EGC, which was confirmed by the worse outcome in patients with this uncommon papillary EGC variant in our study. Although EGC with the micropapillary component has dismal prognosis, 23 the survival analysis in our cohort revealed similar results in prognosis among 3 groups after excluding the papillary EGC cases with the micropapillary component. Therefore, the micropapillary component may influence, but not entirely account for the significantly worse prognosis in the patients with high-grade papillary EGC.…”

“…The MPC phenotype is related to poor prognosis [39–41]. The higher metastatic potential can be attributed to the apical membrane being exposed to the microenvironment, at least partially, by enhancing the adherence to or invasion of the endothelium at the distant organ.…”

“…Excluded were synchronous gastric carcinomas, gastric stump carcinoma, and lymphoma. Micropapillary adenocarcinoma, an aggressive variant of gastric carcinomas, as described in our previous study, was also eliminated [11]. During the period from January 2010 to December 2012, 109 consecutive cases of conventional early gastric carcinomas with follow-up information were enrolled in the study as the control group for comparison, while 20 cases without follow-up information in this study period were excluded.…”
