Thermochromic inks have proven to be a promising security encoding approach for making commercially available products less susceptible to forgery. However, thermochromic inks have been plagued with poor durability. Thus, self-healable hydrogels can be used as self-repair inks with better durability. Herein, we combined hybrid cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and sodium alginate (SA) with anthocyanidin(Cy)-based Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata extract in the existence of mordant (ferrous sulfate) to create a self-healing ink for authentication. CNFs were used as a reinforcement agent to enhance the mechanical strength of the sodium alginate hydrogel. Both durability and thermal stability were ensured using self-healing inks. Red cabbage was used to extract Cy-based chromophore as an environmentally friendly spectroscopic probe for immobilization into SA. Using varying concentrations of anthocyanidin, self-healable composite hydrogels (Cy@SA) with thermochromic properties were provided. Using the CIE Lab color coordinate system, homogeneous purple (569 nm) films were printed onto a sheet surface. Upon heating from 25 to 70 °C, the purple color changed to red (433 nm). Transmission electron microscopy was applied to study anthocyanidin/mordant (Cy/M) nanoparticles (NPs). The properties of the applied prints were analyzed using several methods. Both the hydrogel and stamped sheets were tested for their mechanical and rheological characteristics, respectively. Research on the nanocomposite ink (Cy@SA) antibacterial properties and cytotoxicity was also conducted.

Functional and Quality Assessment of a Spore Harvester for Entomopathogenic Fungi for Biopesticide Production

The Green Revolution led to an increased use of synthetic pesticides, causing environmental pollution. As an alternative, biopesticides made from entomopathogenic agents such as fungi have been sought. This study aimed to design and evaluate the performance of a harvester machine for efficiently collecting entomopathogenic spores of Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana grown on rice and corn substrates. The spore yield was estimated, and a spore count and a colony-forming unit (CFU) count were performed. Statistical analysis was conducted to compare the mean values of spores obtained from different combinations of solid substrate and fungi. The Corn-Metarhizium combination produced 34.15 g of spores per kg of substrate and 1.51 × 109 CFUs mL−1. Similarly, the Rice-Metarhizium combination produced 57.35 g per kg and 1.59 × 109 CFUs mL−1. Meanwhile, the Corn-Beauveria combination yielded 35.47 g per kg and 1.00 × 109 CFUs mL−1, while the Rice-Beauveria combination had a yield of 38.26 g per kg and 4.50 × 108 CFUs mL−1. Based on the reported results, the Rice-Metarhizium combination appears to be the most effective, yielding the highest number of harvested spores per kg of substrate. The study estimated a total cost of approximately $409.31 for manufacturing the harvester, considering only the cost of the materials. These results could potentially increase the availability and affordability of entomopathogenic fungi in integrated pest management.

A microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a type of device which is an electrochemical, after technology that is being to recover electricity from wastewater. This study's objective was to measure the potential difference from sludge collected from El-Sheikh Zayed water purification plant (Egypt in April 2021), isolate and identify bacteria present in sludge: Also, determine the effect of adding some metabolites on such physical and chemical properties. Potential difference measurement showed (192 mV) by using MFC. Pantoea spp., Aeromonas salmonicida, Comamonas testosteroni and Staphylococcus lentus were isolated and identified by biochemical reaction tests. A. salmonicida gave the highest potential difference (13mV). After adding some metabolites separately (albumen, dextrose, gelatin and casein), casein recorded 196Mv, a mixture was done between A. salmonicida and four metabolites measuring 50 mV. Physical and chemical analysis showed that biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) (55.0 P.P.M.), chemical oxygen demand (COD) (112.0 P.P.M.), and many minerals and heavy metals were also detected. Green synthesis of electricity from electrogenic bacteria using wastewater like sludge is a promising way to generate electricity by a cheap method.
