“…Based on homology analysis of amino acid sequences among RA39 and other RIPs, and enzyme activity assay, we conclude that RA39 is a novel type I RIP. RIPs are a widely distributed group of plant proteins and have been identified in seeds, roots, leaves and bulbs of many monocots (except rice, until now) and dicots (Bass et al 1992;Vivanco et al 1999;Hao et al 2000;Krawetz and Boston 2000;Kwon et al 2000;Song et al 2000;Van Damme et al 2000).
