Microemulsion based synthesis of Ni/MgO catalyst for dry reforming of methane

Abstract: The dry reforming of methane has been investigated with two sets of catalysts (pure Ni and Ni/MgO) prepared by microemulsion system.

Basic supports, such as MgO, CaO, and La 2 O 3 , would be beneficial for DRM reaction as their basic characteristics will enhance acidic CO 2 adsorption. In particular, MgO has been suggested as a suitable support material due to its low cost, high stability, and strong basicity. , Furthermore, the formation of a solid solution structure between MgO and NiO is likely, which on the one hand could potentially enhance the interaction between Ni and MgO; on the other hand, it may hinder the reduction of NiO and thus having an adverse effect on the DRM reactiion .
