Microdiplanol and microdiplane: a newm-anisaldehyde and a new 24-methylcholestanol derivative from the endophytic fungusMicrodiplodiasp.

Abstract: Phytochemical investigation of the endophytic fungus Microdiplodia sp. afforded a new m-anisaldehyde derivative named microdiplanol (1) and a new 24-methylcholestanol derivative named microdiplane (2). Their structures were confirmed by a comprehensive analysis of 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectrometric data.

“…WGHS5 from the leaves of Osmanthus fragrans , whose crude extracts showed a chemical rich profile on HPLC. The Microdiplodia species are commonly reported as endophytes residing in various hosts including plants and insects, such as Pinus sp., Lycium intricatum and Odontotermes formosanus [13–15] . Terpenoids and polyketides are frequently isolated from this genera of fungi [13–16] .…”

Terpenoids and polyketides are frequently isolated from this genera of fungi [13–16] . Systematic study of the strain WGHS5 led to the discovery of three new eremophilane sesquiterpenes phomadecalins G−I ( 1 – 3 ), and two new benzene derivatives microdiplzenes A and B ( 12 and 13 ) as well as nine known compounds ( 4 – 11 and 14 ) ( Figure 1).…”
