Objectives: To design a low-cost absorbance measurement device using a microcontroller that can be used for student's learning. Methods/Statistical analysis: The setup device is designed based upon Beer-Lambert Law with some LEDs through various sample solutions along with LDR at a different range of wavelength and the results are shown on a 16x2 LCD by use of a PIC16F877a microcontroller. The results are also compared with the standard colorimetric method. Findings: The setup device able to measure the absorbance of different colors of sample solutions at a wide range of wavelength (400-700nm) and measured by utilizing different LEDs to the transmitter end and an LDR at the receiver end. The proposed experimental device's performance was compared with the standard colorimeter for efficiency check. The efficiency of the setup device is near to the colorimeter of more than 95%. Novelty/Applications: For educational purpose, the proposed setup device is well affordable due to low cost (US$10.98) and easy to maintain because of compact size and data acquisition directly through microcontroller.

In the science faculty of university, the device is not enough for every student. Therefore, this research aims to develop a light absorbance measurement device for chemical education. The students can learn about the light absorbance from the proposed device and create it. The creation is not too hard for ungraduated student. In light absorbance experiments, the kind of light is importance. To measure many solution, the proposed device must have many colors of light source. Then, the proposed device uses cellophanes as a filter for changing white light or visible light to monochromatic light. The white light consists of many color of light. When the light transmits the filter, the filter absorbs many color of light excepting filter color. Therefore, the 1 white power LED is enough for experiment. Furthermore, the color of light can be changed or mixed by color filters. To investigate properties of the proposed device, the result of it is compared with the result of the commercial spectrophotometer concerning coefficient of determination.

This research aims to study about developing and demonstrating the low-cost and portable light absorbance measurement device for using and learning in analytical experiments. In chemistry experiments, the concentration of solutions is important for mixing the sample or making medicines. In present, a UV-spectrophotometer is commonly used to check the absorbance of solution for investigating concentration of solution by the Beer's law before bringing it to use in experiment. Although the UV-spectrophotometer has high quality, student's learning doesn't use all functions of the UV-spectrophotometer. Furthermore, the UVspectrophotometer is very expensive to buy many devices for student's learning. To support student's learning for the chemistry education, we develop a low-cost spectrophotometer by decreasing unnecessary functions and parts. The results show the coefficient of determination of light absorbance compared with the UV-spectrophotometer and the linear regression for calculating unknown concentration of solution. The effectiveness of the proposed device is demonstrated by experiments. Moreover, the program receiving the data from the proposed device can receive many data from many device by wireless network.
