Microbiota and Hydrochemistry of Thermal Groundwaters of the Kuldur Spa (Far East, Russia)

Abstract: Chemical composition, distribution, structure, and numbers of different physiological groups of bacteria as well as their biodiversity have been researched. It has been shown that thermal waters are alkaline with low-TDS, Na-HCO3 type, and enriched in boron, lithium, arsenic, and strontium. The content of organic carbon in groundwaters from studied wells is low. They show uneven distribution, low diversity, and numbers of physiological groups of bacteria. The most insufficient numbers and the least diverse com… Show more

“…Low composition of physiological groups of bacteria and their low abundance, which did not exceed 1.2×10 4 c/ml, were observed in the thermal waters of Kamchatka. Similar low numbers of bacteria were registered by us earlier in various groundwaters of the Far East [12,13]. In the Nachikinsky, Malkinsky, and Verkhne-Paratunsky springs, the number of thionic bacteria was the highest and amounted to 4.5×10 2 -1.2×10 4 c/ml, indicating the oxidation processes of reduced sulfur compounds.…”
