Abstract:Recent advances in next-generation sequencing technologies (NGS) coupled with machine learning have demonstrated the potential of microbiome-based analyses in applied areas such as clinical diagnostics and forensic sciences. Particularly in forensics, microbial markers in biological stains left at a crime scene can provide valuable information for the reconstruction of crime scene cases, as they contain information on bodily origin, the time since deposition, and donor(s) of the stain.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
