Microbiological characterization and effect of resin composites in cervical lesions

Abstract: BackgroundNon carious cervical lesions associated to muscle hyperfunctions are increasing. Microhybrid resin composites are used to restore cervical abfractions. The purpose of this study was to investigate if resin composites modify tooth plaque, inducing an increment of cariogenic microflora and evaluate their effect, in vivo and in vitro, against S. mutans.Material and MethodsEight abfractions were restored with two microhybrid resin composites (Venus, Heraeus-Kulzer® and Esthet-X, Dentsply®), after gnatolo… Show more

“…Non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are usually described as the loss of dental structure at the cement-enamel junction that is not caused by dental caries [1]. This type of lesion is very common in the adult population [2].…”

“…Clinically, reducing the erosive potential of a beverage implies decreasing the dissolution rate of dental tissues, even after the acidic challenges imposed by its ingestion, slowing up tooth aging 50 . Teeth affected by erosion suffer the loss of brightness and surface smoothness, with an advance occurring beyond the cervical region (appearing cavities or vitreous appearance of the dentin), especially in the posterior region 51 . In anterior teeth with thinner incisal edges, they may become prone to fractures 51 .…”

Streptococcus mutans [18].…”
