Microbiological analysis of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor therapy‐associated paronychia

Abstract: Empirical oral antibiotic treatment may be performed with oral cephalosporines, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin or moxifloxacin, as these antimicrobials have high in vitro activity against the majority of the isolated microorganisms and reach high concentrations in the relevant tissue.

“…41 Patients usually have positive cultures for bacteria or fungus, and the infections have been suggested to be disease associated. 42 With the use of magnetic resonance imagining, EGFRI-induced paronychia showed soft-tissue swelling in the nail bed, inflammation of the soft tissues adjacent to the distal Incidence of high-grade nail toxicity associated with use of EGFRIs. Summary incidence of all-grade nail toxicity is calculated using the fixed-effects model.…”

“…Papulopustular acne-like eruption is the most common cutaneous adverse event (5) with an incidence rate of 55% (1). Xerosis, pruritus, desquamation, eczematous eruptions, teleangectasia, hyperpigmentation, trichomegalia, alopecia and nail alterations have also been reported (6)(7)(8). The present case report describes an atypical skin reaction in a patient treated with gefitinib.…”

“…Kombiniert man Oxaliplatin mit 5-FU, verbessert man die Ansprechrate und das Überleben [13] [17]. Mittlerweile ist die anti-EGFR-Therapiebedingte Hauttoxizität unter prophylaktischen und therapeutischen lokalen und systemischen Therapien recht gut beherrschbar [18].…”
