Microbicidal activity of TiO2nanoparticles synthesised by sol–gel method

Abstract: In this study, the authors investigated antimicrobial activity of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) synthesised by sol-gel method. As synthesised TiO2 NPs were characterised by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. The antimicrobial activity of calcined TiO2 nanoparticle samples was examined in day light on Gram positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia and Bacillus subtilis), Gram negative bacteria (Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aerugin… Show more

“…The screening of antibiotics was done to identify the standard antibiotic activity against the pathogenic organisms such as Gram‐positive ( S. aureus and S. pyogenes ) and Gram‐negative ( E coli , K. pneumoniae and P. mirabilis ) bacterial strains using the modified Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion method [11, 12]. Antibiotics tetracycline, erythromycin, bacitracin, amoxicillin, cefexime, and ampicillin were selected for the screening.…”

“…Titanium oxide (TiO2) NPs have been widely used as photocatalysts among all photocatalytic compounds (Ravishankar Rai and Jamuna Bai, 2011). TiO2 NPs are self-cleaning, non-toxic, chemically stable highly photo-reactive and have broad-spectrum antibiotic capability (Priyanka et al, 2016).…”

“…Various metal nanoparticles (MNPs) have been used in diverse fields, ranging from environmental remediation and biomedicine to catalysis, opt-electronic materials, and sensors [1,2]. MNPs comprising silver [1,3,4], copper oxide [1,2,5], zinc oxide [1,2,6], titanium oxide [2,7], and calcium oxide (CaO) [8,9] have strong antimicrobial activity against most microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. CaO nanoparticles have been synthesized by solution combustion methods using Ca(NO) 3 and NH 2 CONH 2 dissolved in water [10,11].…”
