Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC): A Potential Game-Changer in Renewable Energy Development

Abstract: Currently, access to electricity in the cities of the Global South is so limited that electrification remains low in rural areas. Unless properly tackled, one-third of the world’s cities will suffer from energy scarcity. The emergence of microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology accelerates the deployment of decentralized and sustainable energy solutions that can address the looming energy shortage. This review consolidates scattered knowledge into one article about the performance of MFC in optimizing electricity … Show more

“…This can enhance its computing power quickly and cost-effectively via the cloud rather than by purchasing, installing, and maintaining their own servers. This model helps water companies to scale up digital solutions with faster speed and agility, while creating value [111]. Industries use cloud services to build and run custom applications and to maintain water infrastructure and networks for companies.…”

“…Cloud computing came on the scene well before the global pandemic hit, but the ensuing digital dash helped demonstrate its power and utility. A water company can use a common cloud platform that serves 124 plants and 1500 customers to consolidate real-time data from machines and systems, track logistics, and offer insights on the processes [111]. Use of the cloud could shave 30% off operational costs by 2025, while sparking innovation simultaneously [113].…”

“…The concept of circularity plays a vital role in TECHS 3,1 industry 5.0 particularly with regards to waste minimization through the recognize, reconsider, realize, reduce, reuse and recycle principles of industrial recycling (Maddikunta et al, 2022). Moreover, digital technologies can be used to attain precision and accuracy in monitoring and tracking environmental features to facilitate environmental sustainability (Kurniawan et al, 2023a). These environmental features include air quality, carbon emission levels, atmospheric pressure and other climatic conditions (Nahavandi, 2019).…”
