Microbial Cyclodextrin Glycosyltransferases: Sources, Production, and Application in Cyclodextrin Synthesis

Abstract: Cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase) is a multifunctional enzyme that hydrolyzes the α-glycosidic bond between two sugar molecules and synthesizes cyclodextrins (CDs) and other transglycosylation products. It is a ubiquitously present extracellular enzyme that offers the CGTase-producing organism the sole right onto starch substrates over other microbes. The present review provides a brief account of diversity among CGTase-producing microbes, CGTase production in different heterologou… Show more

“…Despite the differences in electrode materials, the basic components and principles of all lithium-ion batteries remain the same. CDs, or cyclodextrins, emerge as a product when enzymes break down starch, an essential polysaccharide [47][48][49]. These environmentally derived substances belong to the category of cage molecules due to their structurally stable hydrophobic cavity at the center, enabling them to adeptly capture and encase other molecules [50,51].…”
