To assess the physicochemical properties of AH Plus, GuttaFlow 2, GuttaFlow BioSeal, and MM Seal, five samples of each root canal sealer were evaluated to determine their setting time (ST), dimensional change (DC), solubility (SL), flow (FL), and radiopacity (RD) according to American National Standards Institute/American Dental Association (ANSI/ADA) Specification 57. The distilled and deionized water obtained from the SL test were subjected to atomic absorption spectrometry to observe the presence of Ca , and RD (mmAl) (AH Plus 7.52 ± 1.59; GuttaFlow 2 6.85 ± 0.14; GuttaFlow Bioseal 7.02 ± 0.18; MM Seal 3.32 ± 0.90). ST, DC, SL, FL, and RD showed statistical differences among the root canal sealers (p < 0.05). As AH Plus showed the lowest DC and SL values (p < 0.05), the findings indicate that this sample is the only sealer conforming to ANSI/ADA standards.

The aim of the study was to compare different imaging methods in the diagnosis of microcracks on root dentin and to evaluate the frequency of dentinal microcracks observed after root canal preparation using the ProTaper Universal (PTU) system of different sizes. A total of 30 mandibular molars' mesial roots were scanned with microcomputed tomography (micro‐CT) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging methods before instrumentation. Root canal instrumentation was performed up to PTU F2 and F4 files. After instrumentation stages, the roots were scanned again with micro‐CT and then with CBCT in same parameters. All roots were sectioned horizontally at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm from the apices of the specimens. The sections were imaged under a stereomicroscope. Finally, imaging of the sections was done by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Statistical data analysis of instrumentation steps was performed using Friedman and Wilcoxon tests, and the data of imaging methods were analyzed using Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney U tests (p = .05). Instrumentation with the PTU system up to F2 and F4 files significantly increased the number of microcracks compared with preoperative samples according to micro‐CT imaging (p < .05). For detecting microcracks on the root dentin, there were no statistically significant differences between micro‐CT (43.9%) and stereomicroscopy (45.8%) (p < .05). SEM showed significantly higher percentage of microcracks (88.3%) (p > .05). No microcrack was observed using the CBCT method. There were no statistically differences between micro‐CT and stereomicroscopy. SEM showed more dentinal microcracks while no microcrack was observed with CBCT.

Various clinical techniques such as removal kits, ultrasonic tips, burs, and drills, have been used for fiber post removal in endodontically treated teeth. In most clinical cases, the dental practitioners prefer to use ultrasonic tips, despite the heat generation and the formation of microcracks induced in the radicular dentin. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of using erbium, chromium: yttriumscandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser (2780 nm) as an alternative fiber post removal technique and to compare it to an ultrasonic method using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). The operating parameters of the X-ray tube were set to 50 kVp and 300 mA. This approach allowed the generation of 2D lateral projections that were then used to reconstruct the 3D volume in DICOM format. Fiber posts were removed from 20 endodontically treated single-rooted premolars (n = 10) using an ultrasonic vibrator with diamond-coated ultrasonic tip (control method), or Er,Cr: YSGG laser irradiation protocol; average power 2.5 W, repetition rate 20 Hz, pulse duration 140 μs, 40% air and 20% water, and close-contact mode. The number of sections with newly formed microcracks, the loss of dentinal tissue, the amount of the residual resin cement, and the removal time were evaluated for both methods.The data were analyzed using paired t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank and Mann-Whitney U tests at level of significance a = .05. In the laser-treated group the parameters regarding microcracks formation (21 ± 16) and removal time (4.7 ± 1.1 min) were advantageous compared to the ultrasonic-treated group (42 ± 27 and 9.2 ± 1.0 min, respectively), indicating that Er,Cr:YSGG laser could be an alternative fiber post removal technique.
