Micro Raman Investigation of Graphene Synthesized by Atmospheric Pressure CVD on Copper Foil from Decane

Abstract: In this article we present the results of micro-Raman studies of graphene grown on copper foil surface by atmospheric pressure CVD using decane as precursor, nitrogen as carrier gas with zero flow of hydrogen. Analysis of Raman spectroscopy data showed that film contains spots with single layer thick graphene. We observed significant blue shift of 2D and G bands positions for mono-atomically thick graphene on copper foil. Following literature we relate this shift to the strain induced by the presence of copper… Show more

“…In addition, as it was shown in [ 59 ] for dendritically shaped graphene single crystals (low partial pressure of hydrogen), multiple small adlayers are favorable. Therefore, we believe that during the C 10 H 22 decomposition there is enough hydrogen to terminate the graphene edges [ 13 ].…”

“…The above experimental procedure has been previously reported in [ 13 14 ]. The key differences in the current experimental approach are related to the position of the copper foil in the reactor, the thickness of the copper and the feed rate of n -decane.…”

“…Graphene films of lower defects and thickness of monolayers can be grown on copper substrate using the CVD method [10][11][12][13]. This method employs vacuum furnace and flow meters, as well as hydrocarbon precursors (e.g., methane) and hydrogen, in order to facilitate the necessary chemical reactions.…”

“…The usual method of CVD synthesis of graphene on a catalyst substrate involves several stages [7] that depend to a signifi cant degree on the type of precursor [11]. By using other hydrocarbons with different molecular mass as precursors it is possible to control the synthesis more effectively on account of change in the kinetics of growth of the graphene [11,13].…”
