Micro-damage of Tungsten Fiber Reinforced Copper Matrix Composites under Hypervelocity Impact

Abstract: Wf/Cu78Al10Fe6Ni6 composite was fabricated from Cu78Al10Fe6Ni6 alloy and tungsten fiber by infiltration casting. Wf/Cu78Al10Fe6Ni6 composite hypervelocity projectile impacted concrete target at the speed of 2.4 km/s by a two-stage light gas gun. Microstructure of the residual projectiles after penetration was observed with transmission electron microscope (TEM). Results show that due the effect of high temperature and pressure during the process of penetration, there are different microstructures in different … Show more

“…Yet another composite material class was derived by the use of tungsten wires, fiber, and meshes as a reinforcement of copper base alloys: the copper-tungsten composites (e.g. [460,[477][478][479][480][481][482][483][484][485][486][487][488][489]). Also tungsten particle reinforcement was applied to copper materials including the production of functionally graded parts (e.g.…”

“…Therefore, during the addition process, graphene particles will be dispersed in a dispersant and then mixed with metal powder for compaction. In recent years, the emergence of molecular level mixing methods has also successfully solved the problem of difficult dispersion of graphene, and has also been widely used in the preparation of metal matrix self-lubricating composites [17][18][19] . Powder metallurgy is the most traditional method for preparing self-lubricating composite materials.…”

“…The existing researches show that the matrix sheds gradually during the penetrating process and tungsten fibers answer for armor-piercing mainly. On account of the advantage of big slenderness, the penetration performance of TFC projectile overmatches that of TA projectile [6][7][8].…”
