MHD Free Convective Flow Past a Vertical Porous Plate in a Porous Medium in the Presence of Soret and Dofour Effects

Abstract

Abstract:steady MHD free convective heat and mass transfer flow past a semi-infinite vertical porous plate in the presence of Soret and Dofour effects has been studied in this paper. The governing equations are solved numerically by Runge -Kutta fourth order method along with shooting technique. The effect of various governing parameters for velocity, temperature, concentration; skin-friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are also obtained. The effects of various parameters have been shown numerically and discussed graphically. Keywords: MHD I. INTRODUCTIONIn recent years, the flows of fluid through porous media are of principal interest because these are quite prevalent in nature. Such flows have attracted the attention of a number of scholars due to their application in many branches of science and technology, viz., in the field of agriculture engineering to study the underground water resources, seepage of water in river-beds, in petroleum technology to study the movement of natural gas, oil and water through oil reservoirs, in chemical engineering for filtration and purification processes. The convection problem in porous medium has also important applications in geothermal reservoirs and geothermal energy extractions. Magnetohydrodynamics is currently undergoing a period of great enlargement and differentiation of subject matter. Considering these applications, steady MHD free convective flow past a heated vertical flat plate has been studied by many researchers such as Gupta
