MgO nanoparticles coated with polyethylene glycol as carrier for 2-Methoxyestradiol anticancer drug

Abstract: Novel Magnesium Oxide (MgO) nanoparticles (NPs) modified with the polymer polyethylene glycol (PEG) were synthesized as carrier for the anticancer drug 2-Methoxyestradiol (2ME) to improve its clinical application. The functionalized NPs were characterized by Infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transform to elucidate the vibration modes of this conjugate, indicating the formation of the MgO-PEG-2ME nanocomposite. The studies of absorption and liberation determined that MgO-PEG-2ME NPs incorporated 98.51 % of 2ME… Show more

“…Moreover, magnesium (Mg) nanoparticles coated with PEG act as a drug delivery vehicle for anticancer drug, 2-Methoxyestradiol (2ME). These drug carrier nanoparticles were tested against prostate cancer cell lines and results revealed the decrease in tumor activity of cells, and this drug carrier system can be used to treat prostate cancer [ 106 ].…”

“…Formulation of nanocrystal dispersion of 2ME against PC was one among them [ 10 ]. Later, several nanoformulations including liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, and inorganic nanoparticles were tried for the delivery of 2ME [ 11 , 12 , 13 ]. Each of these nanoformulations offered some advantages over conventional delivery systems.…”

“…Each of these nanoformulations offered some advantages over conventional delivery systems. Interestingly, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-surface modified magnesium oxide nanoparticles decreased the viability of PC cell lines [ 13 ]. Meanwhile, the PEG-surface modified poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles increased tumor accumulation [ 12 ].…”

“…Different approaches have been proposed to fabricate nanoparticles in several sizes and shapes such as thermal oxidation [12], sonochemical [13], combustion [14] and quick precipitation [15]. The multi-functional physicochemical features, large surface area, powerful binding properties and high isoelectric stability of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) enhanced their usage in various analytical probes including electrochemical sensors [16,17], biomedical applications [18,19] and drug delivery systems [20,21].…”
