“…The results showed that methylene blue was internalized in the S. aureus strains. When evaluating bacterial inactivation after the application of aPDT with a fluence of 25 J/cm 2 , the reduction was of approximately 4 logs in relation to the control, not resulting in complete inactivation, as observed in this study using the PDZ as PS [11]. Such results demonstrate that, despite internalization, the type of compound used as PS may directly affect the success of aPDT, not depending only on the internalization of this PS into the bacterial cells to cause inactivation of the strains.…”

“…The suspension was again centrifuged, the PDZ was removed, and the bacteria fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and adhered to coverslips previously treated with Poli-Llysine. After 24 h, the slides were mounted and analyzed under an LSM 700 Zeiss Confocal Microscope with excitation for DAPI (4 ,6-Diamidino-2-Phenylindole, Dihydrochloride) at 405 nm and PDZ at 555 nm [11].…”

“…Previous aPDT studies already showed that MB was an efficient PS in the inactivation of various microorganisms, namely other Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa [32] and Vibrio parahaemolyticus [33], and fungi such as Colletotricum abscissum [34] and Candida albicans [35].…”
