“…estimating the VO2max or computing indices, which can then be aligned with performance classes [3,5,6,7,10]. Many of them estimate the maximum performance capacity and/or the state of training using submaximum work loads and avoiding exhaustive stress.…”

“…There are comparisons between different kinds of submaximum tests [3,8] as well as results of submaximum ergometric tests on subjects up to the age of 14 for body-weightstandardized work loads as well as for PWC 170 [5,9]. Up till now, however, it has not been clear how reliably these submaximum tests represent the maximum performance capacity in this fast-growing age group.…”

“…Cardiopulmonary fitness d h e d as the short-term maximal w o r h g and endurance capacity (13,16,19,22,30) was investigated by submaximal exercise testmg WIT0 (physical worlung capacity) (8, 28). Children with WI7,3 values (WI7&g BW) below two standard deviations of normal values (19) were excluded born the gross motor tests because their results might have been inlluenced by limited cardiopulmonary fitness.…”

“…This is in agreement with the work of Lindemann et al (11), who included only data of heart rates greater than 120 bts/min for calculating characteristic parameters for the physical working capacity. Also Mocellin et al (13) proposed using only values obtained during higher work load (1 W/kg body weight) for extrapolation. Because of the high sensitivity of the estimated models' parameters of the regression polynome: b, b, b to outliers in the data points, it does not seem possible to use these parameters as characteristic parameters for the physical working capacity.…”
