Abstract

WRIGHT and Mc P HEE (1925) developed an approximate method of calculating these coefficients.The increase in observed inbreeding in a population provides an estimate of its effective size (WRIGHT, 1931). Total inbreeding may be divided into three parts : current inbreeding, long term inbreeding and strain inbreeding (R OBERTSON and ASKER, 1951a).The coefficient of relationship of an individual to a population includes two components respectively due to direct and collateral relationship. The direct relationship is an estimate of the genetic contribution of an individual to the population. WIENER (1953) givei a method for calculating contributions of herds or flocks to the genetic make-up of a breed.
