Method to Calculate Stress Intensity Factor of V-Notch in Bi-Materials

Abstract: Based on Zak's stress function, the eigen-equation of stress singularity of bi-materials with a V-notch was obtained. A new definition of stress intensity factor for a perpendicular interfacial V-notch of bi-material was put forward. The effects of shear modulus and Poisson's ratio of the matrix material and attaching material on eigen-values were analyzed. A generalized expression for calculating KI of the perpendicular V-notch of bi-materials was obtained by means of stress extrapolation. Effects of notch de… Show more

“…A similar convergence of results was obtained in the notch problem, the tip of which is located on the border of the connection of two materials. The relative difference between the compared GSIFs values, found with the use of the developed method and in the work [ 26 ], was about 1.8%.…”

“…As for the corners with a non-zero opening angle, the authors of the papers [ 12 , 26 ] have dealt with this subject. In [ 26 ], eigenequation was derived and the influence of material constants on the roots of this equation was investigated. Moreover, the authors, assuming that the notched bi-material is subjected to tensile loads, determined generalised stress intensity factors.…”

“…The procedure makes it possible to calculate singular stress fields more easily than before. Li and Song (2008) used Zak's stress function to obtain the eigen-equation of stress singularity of bimaterials with a V-notch, and a new definition of SIFs for a perpendicular interfacial V-notch of bimaterial was put forward. Shang et al (2009) determined the SIFs for free edges in multi-layered structural components.…”
