Method of Passive MMW Image Detection and Identification for Close Target

Abstract: This paper mainly deals with the problem of detecting and identifying target in close range, the performance of which will be effected by the radiometer's parameters and target's characteristics. According to the relationship between the range equation of the Passive Millimeter Wave (PMMW) and these parameters, we present a convenient statistical method based on PMMW image detection to solve the inherent problem by statistical radiometer parameters, which can be achieved by the W band radiometer experimental d… Show more

“…If a power source is used to illuminate the targets, then the system is known as active . If no power source is used to illuminate the targets, then the system is passive . However, the main advantage when using passive systems is that the scene is not radiated, so bounces of more exposed areas do not hide other areas so a more realistic image is obtained.…”

“…PMMW imaging systems can generate images through the passive detection of naturally emitting MMW radiation from substances. In recent years, researchers have used PMMW technology for military applications, including detecting aircrafts [6][7][8][9] , especially stealth fighters due to the "hot" MMW emission of radar-absorbing materials (RAMs). Traditional stealth fighters generally have RAM on the surface [10] .…”
