Method for regeneration of hormones: 17β-estradiol, 21α-hydroxyprogesterone and corticosterone. A pathway for a possible medical application

Abstract: The hormones 17β-estradiol (17βE2), 21α-hydroxyprogesterone (21α-HOPRG) and corticosterone (CORT) were used as representative models for the study. As a source for hormone excitation in singlet state serviced monochromatic UV-light (λ=254 nm), it was stated that the transients resulting by e-aq emission in air-free mixture water/ethanol 40/60, as long as they are in "status nascendi", can be regenerated by electron transfer from a potent electron donor, e.g., vitamin C. The hormone regeneration (%) strongly de… Show more

“…This effect is attributed mainly to the aromatic structure of ring A and to the OH-groups, particularly in their dissociated state [6] . Estrogen hormones form similar ' associates ' at higher concentrations ( > 10 −7 mol/L) [8,9] . This effect can be monitored in two ways: spectroscopically, as mentioned before, but also by decreasing Q(e aq − )-yield with increasing hormone concentration ( Table 3 ).…”

“…Firstly, I will discuss the reaction mechanisms of the e aq − emission from estrogens, having an aromatic ring A of the molecule. Taking 17 β -estradiol (17 β E2) as a representative, the following reactions can take place when it is electronically excited in water/ethanol = 40/60 media [8,9,15,16] . Based on previous studies [6] , the formation of the hormone radicals R 1…”
