“…The pvl gene was not detected in milk and dairy isolates of the present study. This result is similar to those published by Traversa et al () and Papadopoulos et al (). A contrary result was reported by Basanisi et al () who indicated a prevalence of 50% for the pvl gene among MRSA isolates from milk and dairy.…”

“…The same result was found by Ektik et al (), and similar results were published by Papadopoulos et al () with 99.3% resistance and by Can et al () with 95% resistance. Consistent with our data, several studies performed in different countries also reported resistance to tetracycline (Can & Çelik, ; Ferreira et al, ; Oniciuc et al, ; Pamuk et al, ; Papadopoulos et al, ; Traversa et al, ), clindamycin (Can & Çelik, ; Pamuk et al, ; Traversa et al, ), and chloramphenicol (Pamuk et al, ; Papadopoulos et al, ). In addition to antibiotics tested in the present study, resistance to erythromycin (Can & Çelik, ; Pamuk et al, ; Traversa et al, ), ampicillin (Can & Çelik, ; Ektik et al, ), and ciprofloxacin (Oniciuc et al, ; Papadopoulos et al, ) has been reported in milk and dairy isolates of MRSA.…”

“…For the 10 relevant antibiotics investigated, all staphylococci isolates were resistant to more than three antibiotics. The rate of multi‐resistance seems to be higher than that determined in many previous studies on food‐related MRSA isolates in Greece (Papadopoulos et al ), Egypt (Kamal et al ), Thailand (Bunnueang et al ), Italy (Traversa et al ) and Spain (Alnakip et al ), but comparable to the results noted in China (Wu et al ).…”

“…In addition, S. aureus strains may also harbor pore-forming toxins involved in the pathophysiology of skin infections, such as Panton-Valentine Leukocidin (PVL) [11], and antibiotic-resistance genes, including methicillin resistance mediated by the mecA gene chromosomally located in the staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCC mec ) [12]. …”
