Methane explosion accidents of tunnels in SW China

Abstract: This Express Letter reports three methane explosion accidents during tunnel construction in Southwest China. In recent years, tunnel construction of China is developing rapidly. The geological conditions of the tunnel passing through are extremely complex, especially, tunnels in coal strata increase rapidly, what's worse, many methane explosions occur during the tunnel construction. The backgrounds, causes and rescue operation of three methane explosion accidents situation are studied. Furthermore, we proposed… Show more

“…The nonparametric approach includes artificial neural networks (ANNS) [13][14][15][16][17], k-nearest neighbor (KNN) [18][19][20][21][22], support vector regression (SVR) [23,24], and the Bayesian model [25,26]. The hybrid approach mainly combines the parametric approach with the nonparametric approach [27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35]. Vlahogianni et al [36] summarized existing traffic flow prediction algorithms, and readers interested in details of the models that apply to the field of traffic prediction could refer to their review paper as a reference.…”

“…As loess has inherent strength, the vertical load of surrounding rock in the shallow tunnel was smaller than that in the deep one, and the vertical deformation was larger than the horizontal one. With the increase of tunnel depth, the soil pressure increased as well, and the initial stress was gradually dominated by tectonic stress, causing the increment of horizontal and vertical deformations [54][55][56][57][58][59]. Finally, horizontal and vertical deformations tended to be equal and CS/ HC tends to be a constant.…”

“…On the one hand, according to the situation of Xi'an subway planning, most of the upper layers of subway construction are new loess which have physical features such as high void ratio, incomplete consolidation, and low strength [16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. On the other hand, there are lots of ground fissures in Xi'an, so the disturbance of tunnel construction will inevitably lead to large strata deformation [23][24][25][26][27]. During the deformation process, the leakage of urban pipelines will easily lead to large-scale collapsibility of loess strata.…”
