“…Breast cancer in females and lung cancer in males are the most common malignant tumors metastasizing to the oral mucosa. Other sites, which rarely metastasize to the oral cavity, include primary female genitals, bone, skin, esophagus, eye, thyroid, liver, kidney, prostate, bladder, testes, and stomach (4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). Metastatic lesion was the first sign of the systemic malignant disease in 35% of patients.…”

“…This study reports the case of an odontogenic lesion that involved the periapex of teeth 22 and 23 in a 55-year-old man. Although uncommon, the finding of tumours that arise as periapical radiolucencies is not surprising because benign (Morais et al 2011, Rodrigues et al 2011, malignant (Favia et al 2000, Kuc et al 2000, Chen et al 2004, Choi et al 2012) and even metastatic tumours can be found in this region (Milobsky et al 1975, Block et al 1977, Nevins et al 1988). However, although cases of odontogenic cysts and tumours that mimic periapical lesions have been previously reported (Kuc et al 2000, Cunha et al 2005, Nikitakis et al 2010, Tejasvi et al 2010, Gondak et al 2013, few cases of keratocysts in the periapical region exist (Wright et al 1983, Stajci c & Paljm 1987, Nohl & Gulabivala 1996, Garlock et al 1998, Tan 2001, Pace et al 2008, Tejasvi et al 2010, Khanna et al 2011.…”

“…The lungs (Tucker et al, 1968;Adler et al, 1973;Roser et al, 1976;Ciola and Yesner, 1977;Bhutani and Pacheco, 1992) and the breast (Roser era/., 1976;Spott, 1985;Bhutani and Pacheco, 1992) are the most common primary sites for metastasis to the maxilla. Reports about metastasis to the maxilla from a malignant tumour of the kidney (Milobsky et al, 1975;Roser etal, 1976), the urinary bladder (Cohen etal, 1989), the uterus (Orlian, 1978), the vagina (Ramanathan et al, 1968), testis (Kranz, 1966), the brain (Tenzer et al, 1988), and the scapula (Roser et al, 1976), can also be found. We did not find any report about metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma to the maxilla, and we believe our report to be the first one.…”
