Metastatic Breast Cancer in Uterine Cervix

Abstract: Uterine cervix involvement by a distant primary tumor is a rare event. We report the following 2 cases of breast tumor metastasis to the uterine cervix with different presentations: case 1 is an isolated cervix metastasis and case 2 is a disseminated metastatic disease with cervix involvement. In both, clinical examination raised the suspicion of cervical tumor, which was confirmed to be a metastatic adenocarcinoma. The poor outcome and lack of symptoms suggest that although its rareness, all patients with brea… Show more

“…Similar to our case, a routine Pap test necessitated further workup, revealing synchronous endometrial and cervical metastases 5 . A literature search of patients with cervical (with or without uterine) metastases of breast cancer revealed on Pap test (without or without co‐current cervical biopsy) identified a total of twenty‐four previously published cases; nine were ductal, and fourteen were lobular (one was not specified) 5‐23 . Cases with isolated cervical metastases and cases with disseminated metastatic disease with cervical involvement were reported.…”

“…There are few cases of IDC with metastasis to the cervix that have been reported in the literature, and the outcomes vary between patients. Procenca et al describe a patient who was had cervical metastasis from her IDC and was subsequently treated with chemotherapy ( Proenca et al, 2016 ). This patient, unfortunately, was found to have progression of her disease and discovery of additional widespread metastasis.…”

“…The surgical metastasis excision, hysterectomy or oophorectomy not only provide diagnostic information, but they could also have a curative effect along with systemic therapy ( 104 ). The local control of bleeding can also benefit from radiation therapy, uterine artery embolization and conisation ( 73 ). However, genital tract and ovarian metastases represent the late stage of a systemic disease, for instance BC patients with ovarian metastases have a 6–26% 5-year survival rate ( 106 , 454 , 457 ).…”
