Metastatic Bone Pain Palliation using 177 Lu-Ethylenediaminetetramethylene Phosphonic Acid

Abstract: 177Lu-ethylenediaminetetramethylene phosphonic acid (EDTMP) is presently suggested as an excellent bone seeking radionuclide for developing metastatic bone pain (MBP) palliation agent owing to its suitable nuclear decay characteristics. To find the exact dosage and its efficiency, this clinical study was performed on the human being, using 177Lu-EDTMP for MBP palliation. 177Lu-EDTMP was prepared by Iran, atomic energy organization. Thirty consecutive patients with determined tumors, incontrollable MBP, and pos… Show more

“…The current study reports an ORR of 90%, which is well within the range of response rate with other boneseeking pain palliating agent [ 177 Lu]Lu-EDTMP ranging between 83 -86% [8,9]. Interestingly, pain relief was initiated within ≤ 7 days after the [ 177 Lu]Lu-DOTA-ZOL treatment and lasted up to 10 mo.…”

“…For bone pain palliation it has been labelled with several bisphosphonates such as ethylene diamine tetramethylene phosphonic acid (EDTMP) [ 7 9 ], (4-{[(bis(phosphonomethyl)) carbamoyl]methyl}-7,10-bi (carboxymethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododec-1-yl) acetic acid (BPAMD) [ 10 15 ] Zoledronate (DOTA-ZOL) [ 16 22 ], and DOTMP [ 23 , 24 ]. Zoledronic acid, compared to EDTMP and DOTMP, has significantly higher hydroxyapatite binding and better internalisation by osteoclasts.…”

“…Alavi et al 62 evaluated the role of 177 Lu-EDTMP in 30 eligible patients with different cancer types for metastatic bone pain palliation therapy. 62 After IV injection of 29.6 MBq/kg 177 Lu-EDTMP, whole-body scans were performed 24 hours, 72 hours, and also 7 days postinjection. Pain relief began 2.53 Ϯ 2.08 weeks after the injection and the response lasted for 4.38 Ϯ 3.34 weeks.…”
