“…In both BKBO and BPBO, superconductivity seems to be associated with a metastable phase. In BPBO, superconductivity is found for 0.70 ≤ y ≤ 0.80, in a tetragonal phase (I4/mcm) which is metastable with respect to the orthorhombic phase below ≈ 450K [924,925]. Both the tetragonal and orthorhombic phases have nearly the same magnitude of tilt distortion, but the direction of distortion is different, and yet only one phase is superconducting!…”

“…The breathing mode may still play an important role in producing the strong electron-phonon coupling required for superconductivity [921] -again, in close analogy to the situation in LSCO (Section VIII.D). Once Pb is substituted for the Bi, or K for Ba, in Ba 1−x K x Bi 1−y Pb y O 3 , the breathing distortion is rapidly eliminated, near x = 0.1 or y = 0.23 [924], leaving an orthorhombic structure (Ibmm) with a pure tilt mode distortion. In both BKBO and BPBO, superconductivity seems to be associated with a metastable phase.…”

“…4). The Pb/Sn-O1-Pb/Sn bond angle is about 165.5° in BaPbO 3 and is about 180° in BaPb 1-x Sn x O 3 . The closer Pb/Sn-O distances, the stronger ionic interaction due more rigid and regular Pb/SnO 6 octahedral.…”

“…The static and dynamic effects of the cation disorder in the sublattice of Pb(Bi)O 6 octahedra on conduction electrons are considered only in few publications. In discussing neutron diffraction results it was concluded 16 that in the range of 0.12 < x < 0.3, the crystal structure of BaPb 1−x Bi x O 3 can be considered as a micro-dispersed mixture of tetragonal and orthorhombic phases. Furthermore, a reversible change of the relative fraction of the two phases occurs with temperature.…”
