“…The authors used the EDS technique and TEM with a focused ion beam (FIB) to identify the intermetallic compound as Al 8 SiFe 2 with a hexagonal unit cell. The stoichiometry of this compound corresponds to τ 5 compound, in conformity with the findings of other studies on HDA with Al-Si bath [115][116][117][118]. The observations of this work highlight two points-that aluminium is the main diffusing species, at least in the initial few seconds, and the formation of a layer of the ternary Al 8 SiFe 2 (τ 5 ) compound near the steel interface can be surprisingly rapid, taking only 3 seconds in this case.…”

However, they detected a thick layer of η(Fe 2 Al 5 ) bordering the steel substrate and a thinner layer of θ(FeAl 3 ) [116].
