Metal Matrix Composites: Continuous Silicon‐Carbide Fibers/Titanium‐Alloy Matrix

Abstract: Titanium matrix composites (TMCs) are candidate materials for use in gas turbine engines to design highly loaded components. This article focuses on damage mechanisms in TMCs. Longitudinal and transverse loading are both considered. Constitutive laws based on micromechanics are described. It is shown that these approaches can be used to model real structures such as a compressor ring reinforced by a TMC.
