Metal-Insulator Transition and Its Relation to Magnetic Structure in(LaMnO3)2n/(SrMnO3)<

Abstract: Abstract:Superlattices of (LaMnO 3 ) 2n /(SrMnO 3 ) n (1≤ n ≤ 5), composed of the insulators LaMnO 3 and SrMnO 3 , undergo a metal-insulator transition as a function of n, being metallic for n≤2 and insulating for n≥3. Measurements of transport, magnetization and polarized neutron reflectivity reveal that the ferromagnetism is relatively uniform in the metallic state, and is strongly modulated in the insulating state, being high in LaMnO 3 and suppressed in SrMnO 3 . The modulation is consistent with a Mott tr… Show more

“…6,12,13,14 However, the magnetization ( M  ) induced at a single interface is often too small to be detected by conventional tools and it is hard to characterize the cross-coupling of M  with electric polarization ( P  ), such as magneto-electric effects. One of the neat ways to amplify the effect is making superlattices to multiply the signal.…”

“…(1), the region with charge dropping involves 4 − 5 planes between the two blocks. We notice that the local charge density for (LM O) 16 /(SM O) 8 and (LM O) 32 /(SM O) 16 systems are very similar around the interface. Furthermore, the numerical results show close values of variational free energy corresponding to above mentioned systems.…”

“…electrical transport. Several studies have presented results on the properties of (LMO) 2n /(SMO) n superlattices, which have an identical La/Sr ratio with respect to LSMO [60][61][62]. A decrease of the residual resistivity, with respect to the solid solution, was observed for the n = 1 superlattice [62].…”
