Metal Complexation Properties of Schiff Bases Containing 1,3,5-Triazine Derived from 2-Hydroxy-1-Naphthaldehyde in Solution. A Simple Spectrofluorimetric Method to Determine Mercury (II)

Abstract: Four new Schiff base ligands carrying naphthalene groups were prepared from the reaction of 2,4-diamino-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine and 2,4-diamino-6-undecyl-1,3,5-triazine with 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde. The influence of a series of metal ions including Cu, Co, Hg, Al, Cr, Fe, Pb, Ni, Cd, Zn, Mn, Ag, Ba, Ca and Mg on the spectroscopic properties of the ligands was investigated by means of absorption and emission spectrometry. The results of spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric titrations disclosed the comp… Show more

“…Regarding the IR signals of the ligand, tow intense bands are observed at 1672.30 and 1765.66 cm -1 corresponding to ν(C=O) and ν(C=N) stretching of the imine group, 41 respectively. Thin bands were observed in the range of 3160-3360 cm -1 , assigned to the presence of hydrogen bonded ν (NH) and ν (OH).…”

“…The stability constant of complex was calculated according to the known procedure [32]. A kind of standard addition method [33][34][35][36][37] was used to determine Fe 3+ in the spiked sand-soil reference material with OBS The IR spectra of the compound have C=O, C=S and N-H stretching bands of thiosemicarbazide group at 1641 cm -1 , 1242 cm -1 and 330, 3220 cm -1 , respectively. In the 1 H-NMR spectra, resonances assigned to the three N-H protons of the compound were detected at 9.95 and 10.01 ppm (s, 2H, NHCSMH) and 10.48 ppm (s, 1H, NH-C=O) respectively.…”
