“…Dysregulation in the levels of twelve lipids, most of which have functions related to energy and structural functions, was observed. It has been emphasized that this situation may be related to oxidative stress, inflammation, or changes in energy metabolism (Alvarez‐Mora et al., 2023 ). Although studies have shown that chronic doses of diazepam slow down weight gain (Sonn et al., 2022 ), the underlying cause is not fully known.…”

“…Briefly, 500 µL of plasma were transferred to a 2 mL Precellys® tube and were spiked with 20 µL of internal standard solution, containing deuterated endocannabinoids and lipidic mediators in a concentration of 1.25 µg/mL in acetonitrile, as described in the previous work 23 . For the extraction, 1000 µL of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE, HPLC grade, Lab-Scan Analytical Science, Poland) were added to the tubes, and the mixture was homogenized in a Precellys® 24 homogenizer coupled to a Cryolys (Bertin Technologies, France) at 4°C with 3 cycles of 20 seconds at 6500 rpm and 20 seconds of rest between cycles.…”

“…Since the studied cohorts were large enough, that work opened the possibility to broaden the scope and to address a more in-depth study based on non-targeted analysis to find key biomarkers beyond the ones determined through target analysis approach. For this reason, we have implemented a metabolomic approach to study the lipidic phase isolated in the previous work by means of high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (HPLC-HRMS), as it has been carried out previously 23,24 . This way, a better understanding of the relation between cannabis abuse and SZ development would be achieved and potential biomarkers could be suggested.…”
