“…Cholestatic injury was associated with inflammation, and our previous study has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects of HLJDD both in vitro and in vivo (Lu et al, 2011 ). HLJDD, its main herb and representative components have been indicated to possess therapeutic potential in the treatment of stroke (Wang et al, 2013 , 2014 ; Zhang et al, 2015 , 2016 , 2017a , b ; Zhu et al, 2018 ), chronic cholestasis injury (Wei et al, 2015 ) and multiple organ failure during sepsis (Liao et al, 2016a ; Li et al, 2017 ; Lv et al, 2017 ; Xu et al, 2017 ). Herein the aim of the present work was to comparatively study the two cholestatic injuries induced by thioacetamide and by bile duct ligation, and their treatment by HLJDD using an NMR-based metabolomic approach.…”

“…In a metabolomics study, HLJDD decreased the levels of glutamine and γ-aminobutyric acid in plasma of MACO rats, which might be responsible for neuronprotection via the decline of excitotoxicity of glutamate. HLJDD also elevated acetylcholine level and maintained cholinergic neurons function [27]. The molecular mechanisms of HLJDD in the treatment of CNS are shown in Fig.…”

“…More and more clinical application cases have prompted people to explore the potential pharmacological effects and possible molecular mechanisms of HLJDD by modern pharmacology and molecular biotechnology. Modern pharmacological studies indicate that HLJDD exhibits therapeutic actions in various pathological aspects, such as hyperlipidemia [14], tumor [6,15,16], arthritis [17][18][19], sepsis [20][21][22], cardiac damage [23], liver injury [24,25], kidney disease [26], cerebral ischemia [27][28][29], type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) [30,31], Alzheimer's disease (AD) [32][33][34], fungal infection [35] and inflammation [36]. In the meantime, with the deepening of researches and the continuous development of technology, more and more chemical compositions of HLJDD have been discovered.…”

“…Other studies have reported that HuangLian JieDu decoction (HJD) could inhibit ischemic neuron apoptosis by regulating PI3K/AKT and HIF-1a/VEGF (Zhang Q. et al, 2014). Further metabolomics (Zhu et al, 2018) and systemic pharmacology (Wang P. et al, 2019) studies have revealed that its anti-ischemic protective effect may also involve the Bcl-2 family such as Bak. Regulating vascular function and increasing cerebral blood flow supply is another effective strategy for stroke treatment.…”
