Metabolism of canine kidneys in anaerobic ischemia and in aerobic ischemia by persufflation with gaseous oxygen

Abstract: with the cooperation of C. Freiberg, D. A m m e r m a n n , and M. BrunkePfliigers Archiv 337, 87--106 (1972) Page 88, second line from the top. The sentence reads as follow: It must be attributed to a sufficient aerobiosis in the aerobically ischemic kidney, during which organogenic substrates and substrates brought in by the initial perfusion are utilized.

“…0.001 atm). After tissue water was evaporated during at least 5 days of freeze-drying, the tissue concentrations of energy-rich adenine nucleotides and lactate were determined by standard enzymatic tests, as described previously [10,11]. The energy charge potential (ECP) was calculated according to Atkinson [12] as: ECP = (ATP + ½ ADP)/(ATP + ADP + AMP) (total adenine nucleotides, TAN = ATP + ADP + AMP).…”

“…For the first time probably in clinical practice, the ROP was applied to kidneys by Rolles in 1989 (12). Studies comparing the quality of grafts preserved by ROP with those routinely subjected to cold storage or intra-arterial perfusion have been performed on a repetitive basis (12,13). It has been shown that ROP, from many aspects, can be even more beneficial than the customary preservation both for kidneys and for liver.…”

“…It is known that hypothermic perfu sion for 24 h at a high pressure produces histologic changes and reduces renal function after transplantation [5], Experimental preservation of dog kidneys with 0 2-persufflation have shown good biochemical preservation of the renal tissue [7], but such kidneys did not function after retransplan tation [8], Contrary to this, Talbert et al [ 11J demonstrated good func tion of kidneys perfused in situ with oxygen during 3-4 h of complete is chaemia.…”
