Metabolic Reprogramming in Gastric Cancer: Trojan Horse Effect

Abstract: Worldwide, gastric cancer (GC) represents the fifth most common cancer for incidence and the third leading cause of death in developed countries. Despite the development of combination chemotherapies, the survival rates of GC patients remain unsatisfactory. The reprogramming of energy metabolism is a hallmark of cancer, especially increased dependence on aerobic glycolysis. In the present review, we summarized current evidence on how metabolic reprogramming in GC targets the tumor microenvironment, modulates m… Show more

“…In addition to this, there are natural compounds that show promise for the treatment of cancer, such as crocin, one of the bioactive compounds in saffron, which can reduce the expression of HIF-1α in gastric cancer tumor cells, thus reducing the migration, invasion and EMT of gastric cancer cells [125,190]. Another natural compound, ginsenoside 20(S)-Rg3 extracted from Panax ginseng, promotes the degradation of HIF-1α in ovarian cancer by targeting miR-519a-5p resulting in the inhibition of EMT and suppression of HK2 expression, a crucial enzyme in the Warburg effect [126,191].…”
