Metabolic effects of exercise in the golden fish Salminus maxillosus "dourado" (Valenciennes, 1849)

Abstract: Strenuous exercise in fish is usually a consequence of migration, reproduction, and spawning. Varying among fishes, this kind of stress is associated with blood glucose and lactate increase, in relation to which two major groups are distinguishable: the "lactate releasers" and "non-lactate releasers". Unlike strenuous exercise, sustained swimming imposes a variety of effort that results in distinct kinetic types of blood lactate and glucose. Compared to Platichthys stellatus and Oncorhynchus mykiss, blood lact… Show more

“…Serum, STf and ITf glucose content was measured using an enzymatic (Mutarotase-GOD) calorimetric technique (Autokit Glucose Wako, Wako, TX, USA)) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Tissue factions were prepared as described by Koya et al [49] with some modifications. Briefly, STf and ITf were sonicated in 6 N perchloric acid while in an ice bath.…”

“…A colorimetric estimation of glucose concentration in testis samples was performed by using specific commercial kit according to the protocol of Moraes et al . () with minor modifications (Verma & Krishna, ). In brief, 10% (w/v) tissue homogenate was made in 6 N perchloric acid (PCA) in an ice bath.…”
