Meta‐Analysis of P‐Wave Dispersion Values in Healthy Individuals: The Influence of Clinical Characteristics

Abstract: Pd, Pmax, and Pmin span a wide range of values in healthy individuals. Seemingly, abnormal values were often reported in healthy adults. The high variability of P-wave parameters in healthy individuals, and overlapping of the results with those reported for patients with increased risk for atrial fibrillation, might suggest that this technique has limited sensitivity and specificity. The variability between studies may stem from methodological issues and, therefore, there is a definite need for methodological … Show more

“…To our knowledge, this study is the first to explore potential associations between P‐wave indices and RA mechanics. The P max and PWD in our control group were found to be similar to those reported in a recent meta‐analysis . Intriguingly, the significantly higher P max and PWD found in both of our patient groups were associated with impaired RA function.…”

“…The P max and PWD in our control group were found to be similar to those reported in a recent meta-analysis. 34 Intriguingly, the significantly higher P max and PWD found in both of our patient groups were associated with impaired RA function. Although longer P max and PWD have been described in subjects with RA enlargement due to a secundum atrial septal defect, 35 such associations are not found in the present study.…”

“…Besides, we found P wave dispersion to be more pronounced in patients with DD, another parameter, which has been described to have a certain association with remodeling processes of the left atrium and a higher risk for development of atrial fibrillation [33]. However, the value of P wave dispersion measurements as a predictor of atrial fibrillation is still a matter of debate.…”

“…The largest review of HCC during pregnancy was reported by Choi et al [2] in 2011. The rarity of this condition may be caused by the fact that the HCC is uncommon in females and in reproductive age.…”

“…For example, it was shown that there is a significant negative correlation between Pd and body mass index. In addition to that, it was shown that mentioned higher values for Pd that is associated with high risk for AF development were also reported in healthy subjects [2]. Furthermore, reproducibility of P-wave measurements is low both in manual and automatic measurements and inter-and intra-observer variability is very high.…”
