Meta-analysis of C242T polymorphism in CYBA genes: risk of acute coronary syndrome is lower in Asians but not in Caucasians

Abstract: Background: A lot of studies have demonstrated that C242T polymorphism in CYBA genes may play an important role in the pathological process of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, the results are not consistent. To further evaluate this debate, we performed a meta-analysis to determine the relationship between C242T polymorphism and ACS. Methods and results: We screened PubMed/MEDLINE, EBSCIO, and EMBASE research reports until Mar. 2014 and extracted data from 10 studies involving 6102 ACS patients and 8669… Show more

“…Elevated blood total cholesterol (TC), lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or triglycerides (TG), and decreased blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) are associated with high incidence and worse prognosis (Reiner et al, 2011;Stone et al, 2014;Hu et al, 2015). Pharmaceutical therapy based on lifestyle modification plays an important role in dyslipidemia treatment, but accompanies with residual risks and potential adverse effects (Nicholls et al, 2014).…”

“…In Caucasians, the TT genotype was associated with an increased risk of ischemic cerebrovascular disease (OR = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.06–4.26, P = 0.034) [ 34 ] and marginally with CAD (OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.99–1.49, P = 0.06) [ 35 ]. In Asians, the T allele has a protective effect to coronary artery disease [ 36 , 37 ] and ischemic cerebrovascular disease [ 34 ].…”

“…The NOS quality assessment criteria included three major aspects: (i) subject selection: 0–4 points, (ii) comparability of subject: 0–2 points, and (iii) clinical outcome: 0–3 points. Selected case–control studies that gained five or more stars were considered as of moderate to good quality [ 36 ].…”
